European Strategic Sovereignty (ESS)
Europe’s strength lies in acting together. European Strategic Sovereignty expands the EU’s vision of strategic autonomy by embracing close cooperation with Norway, the United Kingdom, Iceland, and other key Western partners especially in the High North. It highlights a modern understanding of sovereignty: not as something held alone, but built collectively. Through partnerships like NATO, JEF, and Nordic defence cooperation, self-determination is strengthened by shared values, mutual support, and joint action. Strategic autonomy, in this sense, is not about independence from others. It is about unity.
